Manufacturing agreement Lilium & Aeronamic

Aeronamic has entered an agreement with Lilium, developer of the first all-electric vertical take-off and landing jet, to manufacture the fan for the Lilium Jet’s propulsion system.

Aeronamic has decades of experience in manufacturing high-speed rotating components and precision parts for commercial and defense aviation. “We are beyond proud that this collaboration has come about and that Aeronamic will contribute to the development of Lilium’s sustainable, high-speed air mobility eVTOL aircraft,” thus Reinoud Siezen, VP Business Development & Programs at Aeronamic. “The collaboration fits seamlessly within our “Mission Zero” program. This program focusses on the electrification of flight.”

The key to success in series production

High-tech, small series, diverse mix. That is what defines much of our manufacturing services. On top of that, we are vertically integrated. That means we can do both the machining and special processes in-house for all the parts we deliver. And the key to successful high-productivity manufacturing and the delivery of top quality Aerospace parts is CAD/CAM. Back in 2014, we developed a complete CAD/CAM strategy to streamline its implementation, so that we could always get the most out of the latest technology. And just as well we know how to be of value to the Clean Sky 2 project, together with Leonardo Helicopters and the NLR. At present, we‘re working together on the Leonardo Next-Generation Civil Tiltrotor (NGCTR) and one huge achievement as a result of this project was the introduction of our innovative cabin pressurization system.

Next step in the collaboration between LCW and Aeronamic

Logistic Center Woensdrecht (LCW) and Aeronamic solidified their partnership yesterday by signing two very valuable contracts. Because of this signing, the LCW and Aeronamic are now, more than ever before, able to jointly develop new knowledge in the field of repairs.

Logistic Center Woensdrecht (LCW) and Aeronamic have been working together for quite some time to enable maintenance of the Power Thermal Management System (start-up, cooling and energy supply system) for the F-35 at the Woensdrecht Royal Netherlands Air Force base. Aeronamic has been selected to service the PTMS of the entire EMEA F-35 fleet. In addition to the realization of a physical location of Aeronamic on LCW in building 13, a contract was signed today which states that Aeronamic can make joint use of LCW backshops for PTMS maintenance. This is a win-win situation: LCW capabilities will be optimally used, mutual knowledge will be shared and the F-35 maintenance ecosystem in Woensdrecht will be further strengthened. In the future, it will be examined whether or not other components, for which Aeronamic has been selected, can be maintained in collaboration with LCW. Aeronamic is expected to start servicing the PTMS in the first quarter of 2021.

Innovation is an important element to maintain the Air Force’s weapon systems in the future. One of the technologies that the LCW wants to have access to, is the 3D printing of metals (a.k.a. additive manufacturing). This offers an additional or replacement option to repair components. As Aeronamic has been working on this technology for quite some time now, the LCW decided to collaborate with Aeronamic to include additive manufacturing in the LCW toolbox. They will jointly develop new knowledge in the field of repairs and certify the repair method so that it can be applied in military aviation. This collaboration has also been formalized today with the signing of a contract. On the 14th of January, a combined project team will officially kick-off this new collaboration.

We always look for ways to improve what we are already doing well. Much of these improvements are data driven. In fact, we use data insights as part of our craftsmanship. Although we cannot share sensitive business details, we will gladly give you a glimpse behind the scenes. As Lead Engineer, I’m responsible for managing our technical projects. You could say that I’m the link between our program managers and production. I deal with everything that goes on in between, from paperwork and first article inspections to supporting our CAD/CAM engineers. But I’m also focused on making improvements. This is where I get to combine my skills and expertise with my interest. Data is what makes the big difference when it comes to making real improvements.

PRATT & WHITNEY AND AERONAMIC SIGN LONG TERM AGREEMENT

Aeronamic has signed a long term agreement with Pratt & Whitney for the production of complex engine parts, for both commercial and military aircraft. This high-tech job will be carried out in our production facilities in the Netherlands and Romania. Innovation, best value and vertical integration were the key enablers for this long term agreement.

“We are proud of this agreement as it confirms the important role Aeronamic plays in the Pratt & Whitney supply chain. Pratt & Whitney and Aeronamic have aligned their strategic roadmaps for extended cooperation in the coming years. This will result in further business growth between the companies”, says Steffen de Vries, CEO of Aeronamic. In anticipation of the conclusion of this long term agreement, the first production parts were already delivered in 2019.
